The paper mache trays that I have found which are best for coturnix eggs are the chukar egg trays. The coturnix fit perfectly in them. Other than that, most quail cartons are designed for bobwhites, and bobwhite eggs are not much bigger than my button eggs! The 10 count plastic cartons work okay for the coturnix, they don't snap closed, so they won't crush an egg that is 'bigger'. I just tape them as closed as they'll get, and wrap it in a sheet of bubble paper.

Those fit coturnix eggs? I have had some similar to that, they were 24 count cartons that were not able to be seperated. Every time I have used them or had them shipped to me, there have been broken eggs. The reason the eggs were broken was obvious that it was because the carton cup was too small, and the egg was crushed when the lid was closed. You'll have to send me one of those so I can test it myself Niki!

But basically

I take a small strip of paper towel enough to cover the egg, i wrap it around the sides.. then i fold the bottom of the egg so that the tip is cushioned by the paper towel (or i use a sheet of toilet paper) then I either fold the top of the paper towel or toliet paper over the top blunt part of the egg or i put a peice of foam on the top and then i click the carton shut sometimes the paper is so much that the carton doesnt shut then i'll eithe rput a small strip of tape to close the carton completley and or i wrap the carton up in a sheet of newspaper like im wrapping up a sandwhich theni tape it shut and wala ready to go in the box!
