Quail egg swap

monarc..thanks so much for all that great information!..i was wondering about the wing clipping...so now that i know i can do it, i'm gonna do it asap....... another question...if i have females, do i need to use layer food?..is there a layer food for them?...also, give them oyster shell too? (i wonder if the oyster shell i have for my hens is small enough pieces for them?...it seems kinda big to be)..thanks so much for all the help!, Wendy

I don't feed mine layer feed, mine get seeds so I can't help with that. But they do need extra calcium because they lay daily. I usually crush up eggs shells for them too. And make sure they have grit, the kind for finches is good.

Also, you may have to wait until they have their face feathers before you can tell whats what.
But usually if you see red or blue on the vent or breast area, they are males. On the silver ones it will be a pinkish colour. Females will never have these colours.

ETA: Not all males will have bibs. If you get one that has a white mark on its chest, that means its double factor for the colour that it is and will only produce that colour. And some hens will have what looks like a bib, but its not. I'll post some pictures for you if you want.

Redhen,

Sorry I missed this post until now. I hope you are enjoying those little
featherbutts.

Monarc is correct about them being escape artists and their ability to fly.

Other than that just wing it.

(no pun intended)

Gamebird feed, plenty of water, oyster shell, some sand, maybe leaves
to hind under, finch seed as a treat, vegies, and just about anything
else you want to give them is fine.
