Quail eggs are driving me mad!!

just float tested my eggs had one dud and I didn't see any movement in the rest so I'm not too sure about them but they where floating at the right level so I dont really no I'll just have to wait and see.

You wont really see movement the last few days cause they dont have room in the eggs. What your looking for is the internal pip. you will see the little beak in the air space usually not more than a day before they externally pip. Your humidity sounds a little high though.. was it close to 60% for the whole time???

oh ok yes it was about 60% most of the time I will give them till wednesday then I will be ordering some more if all fails they will be 23 days then that should of been long enough to be sure of them not hatching any idea's what i should try next only small birds though.

I think your problem is your humidity is too high you are drowning the chicks. They hold to much of the fluid in them then they cant move to pip and hatch. Humidity should be around 45% and not much more till lock down then up it to 70% once they start to pip to keep them from drying out. You should try sticking with one type of egg till you figure out how to get them to hatch. If you dont you cant really learn from each hatch and retest you settings to get them right. My bator for my lonely egg is at 98F and 40% and it seems to be doing well. My issue has been getting the temp low enough and stable enough. I have my own chickens so have a good supply of fresh eggs to experiment with.

well its day 21 should I break them 2morro and see how far they developed or leave them longer I read two different advices one 55-60% and put it up too 65-75% on lock down they where a few I could see moving at 8-10 days now you told me that I most likely drowned them I'm gonna try again its not my bator just some bad advice off google I am gonna change my birds but only after I've cleaned my incubator properly and has run for a couple of days at the right humidity and at a straight 99'F 45% humidity till lock down and 55-60% on lock
on you advices I trust you should of ask you ages ago

My pheasant has PIPPED!!!!!! Finally!!!!

My friend has be talking with a commercial hatcher that does pheasants trying to figure out what to do with these eggs to get a better hatch. And thats what they told him to run at. And if they hatch to soon to lower the temp by half a degree each set till he gets a good hatch rate. She did say anything over 100 will kill them. Personally I would go for 98.5 as a temp then if it swings up a little your not in danger of cooking them. Then if they hatch late you could go up a little more your next batch. Just my opinion... I was talking to someone else on here that said they use the same setting for all the eggs they set. No matter what breed bird they are hatching. I think the info you got was taken from a book that is known for being incorrect for home hatching it was based on commercial chicken hatcheries and their equipment is much different than the small bators we use. The styrofoam bators are notorious for drowning eggs so I've read.

All eggs where bad they didn't develop as far as I thought must of drowned them just after the fist week never mind bring on the next batch just cleaned and disinfected the incubator my new eggs should be hear by friday gonna run at 98'F 40% humidity and 60% on lock down on your advice every thing should run smoothly depending on the postman that is he may decide to play football with the box again lol
