Quail eggs - Day 20 - hatch over - smelly

thank you for this post, because I've got some cotunix (and am getting more from sam yay) in the bator right now (along with Button quail eggs that will be ready to hatch this weekend yay)! This info on this post has really helped me. I had no idea they took longer to hatch in most cases, and also that they normally like to hatch at night! facinating!!!

I hope more hatch for ya soon! It's going to be hard for me to be pacient as well ha ha!

Today is Day 19 and no more have pipped. The one that had stopped and hasn't moved again. I am not sure really what has happened. The temp has been perfect and so has the humidty. I keep praying at least one more will hatch for this poor fellow. I will give them two more days just by chance and then give up. Don't you guys think that is enough time? I sure hope my next batch of eggs do not go this bad. The next will be my own eggs at least and I know I have a 3 to 1 ratio of roos to hens. It will be a good test of all my new stock.

Today is Day 20. I decided to candle today and opened the bator. An aroma hit me that wasn't horribly strong, but enough. I knew something had to be rotten. So I took my little flashlight and did my best to see, but nothing seemed moving. One even seemed light colored inside. I am really disappointed. We openned a couple of the eggs to make sure my suspision were right. One infertile and one dead chick. I then openned a couple more and sure enough all dead. It is time to call the hatch over and clean the bator.

Not sure what happened really. I still have yet to contact the breeder - as he is local. I just haven't had time today with all the sun out. I have a couple more weeks until the bobs hatch. Let's hope that one goes better.
