Day before hatch day and I came home from work to several eggs wiggling and pipping. One is pipping at the pointy end, I know that's not good. How long do I wait until intervention if I choose to do that?

Also, one's pipping in the middle...I can't tell if they are all the way through to where they can get air. I know their job now is to absorb the yolk, so they will rest for a while while they do this and I can't intervene yet. And I know I cant open the incubator now without risking shrinkwrapping of all the pipped chicks. Think I could go to bed and check them early in the morning?

First, most eggs will still zip and hatch on their own even if they pip pointy end or in the middle. Second, when they pip directly through the shell, instead of into the air cell, it will take twice has long since it’s technically an internal pip and an external pip. And lastly, you can briefly open the incubator during hatch without risking danger to the eggs. I hatch Every couple of months, year round and have never had an issue. But I’m quick and my incubators hold humidity well. How are they doing this morning?

Thank you for posting, no more action so far, so I'm just checking them every hour or so. That's good to know that they can still hatch out alright if they pip in those areas. I have 3 days off, so hoping they come soon. The bator I'm using is an NR 360. The lid is cumbersome to remove and replace quickly so I dont want to go in there unless I have to till they're all out. Thanks again for posting.:)

Update #2: 3 babies in the brooder, 3 babies in the incubator drying. 2 pips in the bator with the latter 3, and the rest (14) nada at the moment, although I have seen some movement. I am pleased with how things are going so far. The crooked feet straighten out (I did pray over them), and they seem to come out of their bunched up egg-shape fairly quickly. I've decided all these will get a pass as far as being dual purpose...I'm making them layers only. The roos, I dont know, but it's hard to think of these little guys as nuggets. I'm trying to be a farm girl, really. I got over keeping sheep as pets real quick, after I had to chase them around the pasture to hoof trim and give shots. These are just too cute. They already jump into my hand.
