My quail got loose. Ionly had 5 so it was no big loss. I put the cage outside the fence with the feeder inside Also I put water in there they all go in & eat then free range all day. Is this normal with quail? they are 3 texas A&M & 2 brown ones looks like they have tuxes on . I can catch them but the seem so happy. what should I do? Lots of feed & cover all around.

Take one(just 1) of your other quail, place him in a cage and they should call the missing one back.
In N.H.,Tony.

You should capture them. 1. it's almost always illegal without permission from your states game commission to release coturnixs.

2. They have no predatory instincts to avoid predators, like cats, dogs, birds.

I could go on and on, but those are the major two. They are domesticated birds they should stay in enclosed pens.

By the way coturnix ARE migratory birds....so at any point they could just fly off....and believe me they FLY WELL. They will end up dying somewhere not knowing how to naturally care for themselves.

Bring them in since you can catch them, it's the right thing to do.

I assume you wanted us upset that you are going to eat your coturnix? I love coturnix meat...haven't tried A &M white meat yet, but the dark meat is delish!
