Quail failure - Updated Again - Bad

Thanks everyone!

I will be making some small changes to my incubator, this model is the same kind my mother used to use when she was hatching fancy ducks and bantams, and she swears by it! I think if I tweak it a bit, I will see improvements.

Trust me, I'd LOVE to get an octagon, or a sportsman, or something similar. I'm still looking at the brower top hatch too, but am still very unsure on that one.

I'll be setting another clutch by the end of this week and if I remember, I'll update everyone.

Well, hatching day for that clutch has come and gone, with no chicks. I'm out of town today, so there's always the possibility I'll come back to some tough little survivors when I get home but . . .

This time I know what the problem was, the thermostat on my incubator must be going out, the temps kept fluctuating really badly, and I had no other incubator to move them to as my LG practically fell apart after its last cleaning.

However . . . my Brisnea Octagon Eco gets here tomorrow! I'm not giving up on the quail dream just yet.

Thanks for the congrats. I'm out of town so I won't be able to play with it until tonight, but I'm very excited to try it out. I've heard so many good things about it, I'm sure to hatch me a big batch of quail!

I totally understand you. I just had 60 A&M eggs and only had 5 hatch. I decided that if I'm going to try hatching again, it will be with eggs that my own birds produce so that they will be the freshest possible and won't have been handled by the P.O. And in order to get me started, I'm ordering some chicks from monarc.

To me it was worth paying for live chicks rather than to keep dumping my money into eggs that may or may not hatch due to postal issues and incubation delay.

Good luck with your next batch! I hope you have great success!
