I’ve managed to find a source for 30% protein feed but the cost is a little prohibitive. Any suggestions for other brands?

Where are you located? Have you checked your local feed stores (not tractor supply)?

I've been using tucker milling 30% turkey starter and it's 15$ for 50lb. They stopped carrying it a while back and the best I can get from that store now is tucker milling 26% gamebird starter for $15. A different feed store in town carries 28% nutrena turkey and quail starter for $18 a bag and it's what I'm using now. The first store does carry a 20% gamebird breeder with a higher calcium content for $12 a bag. I'm going to swap my hens to this at around 10 weeks.

x2 on where are you located.

What age birds do you have?

I’m located in NJ near Philly. I’ve seen people feeding their laying bird 16% feed with success, but I’d like the option for something a little higher.the nearest feed store is an hour away. My birds are still eggs right now

I think you better just stick to the 30% feed that costs a few bucks more until your eggs are at least 6 weeks of age.

I was only able to find 24% protein, so I've been supplementing with meal worms. Both Dried which are cheap, and live, which are not so cheap but appears relatively easy to start my own meal farm. I have no idea how to rate if that's getting them an extra 6% but they freakin love em.

Be careful with meal worms. They're high in protein, but also high in fat. :)

I’ve kept with feeding the 30% and will do so until about 6weeks. I’ve managed to order two other brands in the 20%’s for when they are older.

I am quite interested to compare what is available in other parts of the world to what we have available in South Africa. We are quite limited in terms of variety (we only really have two brands of game bird feed) but the one brand offers a starter, grower and layer feed options with differing percentages of protein from 30% for the starter crumble to 25% for the layer crumble. I know there are many other factors that influence cost but a 40kg bag (just over 88lbs) of starter feed costs the equivalent of about $16 here. Deepest, darkest Africa does still have it's advantages. Even if we have to ride elephants to work.😋😋😋😋😋
