Hi I have two adult californian quails, its there first winter outdoors in a planted aviary was wondering what to give them as an extra supplement for. Winter, I saw thewild bird suet balls with inseccts. In them, can you give these to quails?

I'm not sure if they would have the beak strength to peck much into a hard suet block but I could be wrong :) The ingredients should be fine, I have *heard* that giving cracked corn to chickens in the cold season helps them generate heat - I'm doing the same with my quail, of course they will need grit as well.

I think I may change to frozen/canned corn - my pet quail group is almost banned from it, puts them in a frenzy to where they're stepping on each other when I hand feed it [IMG]

I may crush or blend it to make it more quail sized [IMG]
