Hey all,
We are new quail parents, we are raising 6 coturnix quail, they are about 10 weeks old now. We have them in a hutch with half of a wired bottom but we are keeping it lined with cardboard and shavings.

Yesterday I was changing out the cardboard and as I was I noticed blood dripping down. One of our hens had blood all over her foot and we noticed it was bleeding from the pad. We got it to stop bleeding with cornstarch and wrapped it in some scraps from a T shirt. We kept her in a smaller cage alone overnight and she seemed to be getting better, she ate and drank and even laid an egg. We were checking on it tonight and thinking about putting her back with the others when all of a sudden the other foot started bleeding from the pad!! She wasn’t anywhere near wire, and we have no idea what happened to this one. She was just all by herself on a cafe with a plastic tray bottom lined with newspaper and shavings.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?? What should we do?

Of course I thought of that after we put her back to rest. We unwrapped the foot that was injured yesterday and the pad looked dark and dry. The one that started bleeding today looked about the same. Kind of dry. Maybe it’s chapped?? I will try to get pictures tomorrow. I don’t want to stress her out more tonight.
