quail for dinner

It ain't such an animal.

Coturnix is fast growing but not "heavy" (Depending what your the definition of "heavy" is).

Butler's bobs are heavier than coturnix, but it takes a looooong time to get them there.

Try Chukar Partridge (but they are not quails)

From what I have heard texas a&m are like any other coturnix quail. Just buy some jumbo coturnix quail from a reliable source. They are the fastest growing quail by far and the most efficient for meat production (although may not be as tasty). You can butcher them around 8-10 weeks.

The A&M's are just coturnix with a white paint job. They don't have white meat... Bobwhites taste the best, but take more time than a chicken to get there, coturnix take about 8 weeks to get to about 13oz.

Once you skin a coturnix, they are pretty much the same!

Taste is a total value judgment. There is absolutely no way to account for another persons tastes. If you like the taste of bobs, then raise them! If you like or can stand the taste of coturnix, then raise them. Coturnix meat is fine with me

Neither is a more efficient at converting GBS to bird meat! It's a matter of what you want to eat, and how much time and other factors you want invest in your quail raising model.

An upside to coturnix over bobs in brooding is a general brooder friendliness. Don't mistake that for an unwillingness to blithely commit suicide, because they both can do that on a whim. They are just generally more brooder friendly than bobs, so that is an up side I count on.
