Quail Hatch - Egg Carton Vs Reg method - Amazing results - UPDATE

You have to be able to tilt it to at least a 30-45 degree angle, and I don't think a 1" block or whatever is going to give it that much of a tilt.

Hi, hope this helps..using LG bator (my first time incubating)...I have an auto egg turner and fan...Day 1-18 consistant 99.5-38 humidity - lockdown 100 - 60- added water with aquarium tubing and syringe (works wonderful) sponges in all corners - remember to leave the space under the hole to add water easier...all eggs are in egg cartons for lockdown...today is day 20 and 3 eggs showing life (little hole in egg) am so pleased and feel so much better now I will let happen what will happen and pray for a great hatch...I ask the same for all of yours.... was told lockdown can be successful at 50 - 70 humidity..good because I couldn't get mine past 60

Just a FYI, I think your replying to a thread thats almost 2 years old... Good luck with your hatch. Bill

This is my egg tray. It sits "eggzactly" like this in my homemade bator. I took cups, sponge and tray out of the bator to take the pic.
I trimmed the extra edge off of the clear, 10 egg, carton down as much as possible, and removed the top portion that folded over. This left me with bottoms only, trimmed so they could be set side by side. They need to fit close together. I did this to 5 cartons. I then used a exacto knife and made a cardboard box that fit these five trays perfectly. The sides are about 3\\4" high. A desk stapler helps here... I then used clear packing tape to connect all the trays together and to the cardboard box I had just made. Now you have a 50 egg, custom tray that can be propped up at about 35 to 45 deg angle. (prop up the long side) When you need to turn your eggs, just turn the whole try end for end, 180 degs and you eggs are now turned 70 to 90 degs. Its quick, your in out in no time... When its time to lock down, set your try flat and leave the eggs alone. You will find you get better hatch rates with eggs standing on end at hatch time.

I was not trying to be a smart a$$ here, If it was taken that way, Bad on me...just pointing out to a new member the thread was old. If the eggs mentioned in the thread hatched, they were most likely eaten a year ago... I agree its good info. Bill
