I have hatched chicken eggs before-with success.

I ordered 5 Darth Vader & 5 White Button, was sent those and 4 extras. I candle them for shadows-I know I have one that is not vaiable.

100% with high humidty. My calender hatch date was the 3rd, nothing is happening.

This waiting is killing me. :)

it took me 18 days to hatch my quail and they hatched out like popcorn! it was crazy i have heard that some quail breeds take longer but i only have experience with coturnix quail

My quail eggs(14) never hatched they were supposed to hatch on the 5th or so it's now the 12th. I just got a small "Sunny side Up", hard to regulate.

So I guess I will have to break down and buy a better one? Suggestions?

We were looking at this sites plans for Homemade incubators-my husband said we could turn my wine frig in one sense it not working. The nerve!

I always recommend brinsea incubators. It's cheaper to buy right from their website and they have many options depending on affordability and how many eggs you'd like to set at the time. I have an octagon eco 20 and a mini advanced. Both work great. I don't have the patience or skill to build my own lol. But I've seen some mighty fine homemade incubators on here. Good luck with your next quail hatch!

I would agree! The Brinsea eco 20 is hard to beat.... I have one with the cradle turner. If I have something that means alot to me, I always try to fit it in the brinsea. Having said that, I have also made alot of really good bators. I have3 running now and 2 of these are home built. With a little research, you can find a lot of designs that will fit what ever type of bator you have in mind. If you run into trouble, there are quite a few of us who could help... Good Luck, Bill

The Brinsea's are a little more money than some of the Styrofoam ones. Are they worth the price?
I know anyone I get I will want a fan and auto turner. My 12 year old made one-based of the design of the little on I got. May lokk on craigs list for some cheap fertile eggs and try his. He put a fan in it, but we would have to do the turning.

Thanks for the help

Hey there,

We build our own incubators out of styrofoam. That said we also have some still air incus that we've bought from Tractor Supply. Honestly, I haven't seen that much of a difference in hatch rate. We raise and care for button quail, been doing so for about four years now. They hatch in about 16-22 days. Some just take longer to come out...I've noticed the main thing is humidity and temperature...especially humidity. We are obssesed almost with making sure enough water is in the incu, that the eggs are being sprayed about 3 x per day etc. We also do our own turning, as button quail are VERY tiny...not sure what all kind of quail you are wanting to hatch, but that's my little bit on buttons :)

have a great day!
