My eggs pipped yesterday morning, and hatched early this morning.
3 out of 11, which is decent considering what they went through in the mail.
The rest of the eggs are still in the incubator waiting in hope.

And now (drumroll please) a picture!

Three chickies in a brooder!

So, quick question.
One of these chicks hatched out of an egg marked "g" for golden. The other two came out of browns - but I'm not seeing much of a color difference.
Are these three browns, or is the difference between the browns and goldens at this age too subtle for this newbie to notice?

There is a pic from a small hatch of goldens and jumbo browns I had awhile back. You can cross a Jumbo Brown male with a Golden hen to get Golden Offspring...same in reverse.

The first time I saw newly hatched quail, they were the smallest babies I had ever seen....until the button quail.
Yours sure are cute!

Aww... your picture is cute Sam.
So, golden is completely dominant? I had been hoping the one marked 'g' might carry the gold gene and it might appear in the offspring... but I guess not.

Also, I got a fourth baby at 5 AM this morning. (Why do I know? Why was I up checking on my chickies and eggs all night? Shut up, I'm not a crazy person!) Another brown.
it makes me happy.

They seem to enjoy their TP tube as I hoped they would.
I was going to wait until later in the morning to put #4 in the brooder, but at around 6:30 he decided he was no longer tired from hatching and was lonely, so he started to scream about it at the top of his lungs.
How can such a tiny creature be so loud? I still wanted to sleep, so I put him in with the others and he quieted down.
Unfortunately my brain got all huffy and decided if I was going to keep interrupting it, it just wouldn't go back to sleep.
I hope this post is coherent, because I'm SO tired.

Up all night checking the bator. You are a crazy person!
I have never done that before.

Congratulations on your hatch!

One week old today (or tomorrow for #4, but we'll let it slide)

They grow SO FAST! I am astonished.
Here are some pics

"we will hide from the camera monster in this corner!" Silly birds.

"That corner didn't work! Quick, let's try this one!"

Their feathers are coming in so fast!
Reading about how fast these things grow is one thing, seeing it in action is another. I swear you can sit there and WATCH them grow.
Craziness.
