My 1st quail hatched 5 hrs ago, I can see another pipped but not doing anything? I added some water this morning because both hygrometers were very low, neither of them have got to 70. I have a small tube fed into the base so I can add water without moving the lid. How long should I wait for the others hatch before I intervene. I'm using a Janoel Digital 12 incubator. Any help would be appreciated.

Be patient. I know it can be stressful but waiting is the best you can do. Hatching is hard so they take breaks but nature takes care of them. If they aren't strong enough to hatch they *generally* don't do as well once they hatch. There are always exceptions but I assist at last resort, 12-24 hours after first pip. Be patient. Let them be. Nature will take its course. Let the hatched ones dry before moving any. IF you raise the humidity to 75%, then it will be easier for them to hatch. You can leave hatched chicks in the incubator safely for 2-3 days. That gives others a better chance at hatching. Then move quickly. Don't get rid of the eggs, until after day 21 - 24

Thank you for your advice. I still only had 1 hatched at 11pm, this morning 3 more have hatched between 7.30 and 10am. I'm so happy to have 4 they are tiny. Still hoping the remaining 7 will hatch it's day 18 so still hopeful. The 1st one is like the road runner...... very active and jumping on the other eggs. I will take some photos and post.

You have a few days to wait. At least let the ones hatch stay in the incubator for the minimum of 24 hours. I usually wait 36 hours, before I try to remove them. They can last 72 hours. But who has the patience for that long?? LOL

Quail and other game birds should actually be taken out a little sooner than your standard chicken chick or duckling. They don’t have as much of a reserve as the bigger babies. Soon as they’re fluffed up a bit they can come out. I usually only leave them in for max 12 hours or so and get them into the brooder and try to get them started eating and drinking. I lost the most when I left them longer and didn’t get them going early on. You can always remove the hatched, fluffed ones when another egg is freshly hatched if you’re worried about humidity. I’m sure others have left them longer with no huge losses but why not get them started early and not have them have to rely on their yolk to get them through?
