One of my girls gently tilts her head backwards constantly... no others I've kept do this. Any ideas what causes this? She's a very heavy bird, the biggest I've ever had too. And her behaviour is much more reserved than the rest (the rest hand feed mealworms but despite being brought up with them, she doesn't).
Is the head tilting a problem?

Could be something neurological in origin. Could also be sinus problems. I have a chicken with MS that had constant sinus draining and she also tilted her head back many times during the day. As if to look skyward for a moment.

You might try adding vitamins/minerals to the water for a month or so. I was able to help this chicken greatly to where she rarely does this movement anymore. If it is neurological, she may be missing some mineral that is causing brain malfunction. I was able to help a female Bobwhte with severe encephalitis with this method, curing her of it completely.

Thanks TwoCrowsRanch,Thanks for the information. I have my suspicions that it's genetic. I'll certainly give a go feeding vitamins and see what the outcome is. I didn't notice her doing this at first, she's about 3 months old now. She's a bit odd all around, as I mentioned, and doesn't interact as the others do. The only thing she's interested in , is getting the attention of the male, who just will not mate her, much as she tries to get his attention and stands next to him as much as possible.
