Quail injuring herself

Yes, I'm keeping her by herself. She seems to be healing up now. She doesn't try popping up as much anymore since we've lowered her ceiling. And, with the ceiling being cloth she has not reopened her wound when she does pop up.

I will take pics and see if I can figure out how to post them.

Thanks for all the help.

I took this picture Saturday (7/4). As you can see she did quite a bit of damage to her scalp. It looks much better today. Parts of the scab have fallen off and what looks like skin is in its place. Tiny feather have also begun to grow around the bald parts of her head. From the photo you can see her upper beak has damage. That is why she was put in our "hospital bin" in the first place. Her beak also has been healing. She is eating pretty well now. Does the beak grow back?

Beaks are constantly growing, just like their claws. This beak will grow back but will take a couple of months.

I am glad she is doing better.

She is also much calmer now. She lets us pick her up again without struggling
I'm glad she's doing better! In case it helps, in a book I purchased on urban quail, it recommended wearing similar colored clothing when working with quail because they can recognize some things, like colors and voices, but don't recognize faces well and unfamiliar things spook them. Might help with nervous ones in the future.

Some quail I bought at 4 weeks old are skeptical of me, at best. I whistle around them because they listen and it seems to keep them distracted enough that they don't pop up. Other quail that I hatched are pretty friendly and not very nervous at all, but one day I walked up to them wearing headphones and half of them freaked out and started racing- took me a while to figure out why, lol. Good luck!

Quote: Quail and all poultry are conscious of color and I have found, especially with my chickens, that if I wear loud clothing like bright red, they are terrified of me. I haven't seen it as much in my quail, although if I show up in my yellow rain jacket around my quail they all freak out. LOL So definitely give this a try...stick to natural colors like greens, blacks, greys, or very dull bright colors.
