Hi everyone! I've been caring for coturnix quail just outside of Dallas, TX, for a month now. I have 20 lovely hens in a large aviary. I'm preparing to start breeding and hatching, but I want to make sure I have done as much research as possible before I take that step. BYC seems to be a wonderful resource and has already answered many of my beginner questions! I'm excited to meet other members and gain more knowledge about keeping these adorable, curious, little birds!

Just curious...how much ground area do you have for them?
Does the area have plenty of leaves?
What are your plans for the additions from hatchings?
You mention hens...you mention hatching...nothing about males...what breeding plans do you have?
How many males do you need for that many hens?
Do you plan to incubate?

I have a friend who raised them before and had a major problem with snakes, eggs and little guys. He finally had to install a 3' high sheet metal fence around his quail compound 4" in the ground to stop the slithery creatures. Snakes have an excellent tongue/smeller.
