I’ve had my quail a good 6 months now and I’ve never seen anything like this. I apologise for the low photo quality but it appears to be a dark emerald green and then on the other side has spots of brown. Is this a cause for concern? I tried Googling it but literally nothing comes up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like the shell is very thin. Is your hen getting enough calcium? Are you offering oyster or egg shell (in quail size pieces) on the side or feeding a layer feed with around 3.5% calcium?
Yes they get access to oyster shell every single day. I wonder if its just due to the change in weather as this is their first winter.

Is the egg normally blue, or cream and brown spotted? Is the eggshell normally blue or white inside? My suspicion is that like nabiki said, the shells are very thin. Sometimes it’s a one-off and never happens again, sometimes it will keep happening and they may need more calcium. I think the thin shell got a dark paint job for some reason and perhaps that quail lays eggs with blue shells inside, and that dark paint job, combined with the thin shell letting the blue show thru more made it that emerald color.

We aren’t 100% sure which bird it is but the one we believe it may be usually lays eggs that are a very light cream, almost white with sparse small black spots. I’m not sure what they look like inside not had a proper look I’m afraid. I’m hoping it’s just a minor calcium problem so going to up their intake and keep an eye on them. Thanks for your help!
