So my quail LOVE water. I have a big dish for them because they just love splashing in it. Even had one that would roll in it as if she were dustbathing. I only keep it about 1-2 inches deep with some rocks to stop drowning, but they love just getting in there and almost ‘playing’ with the water.

Got to talking to some friends with quail and theirs don’t do this. So decided to post here, maybe there’s a reason they do so? Or does anyone else’s quail do this?

Mine don't. Do they have somewhere to dustbathe?

Hm. I don't know. Sounds like they're having fun I guess  Maybe @Quailobsessed knows

Sorry, I've had a pretty busy day.

Yes, my king quails love bathing in their water when they're hot. Is it hot where you are?
I was pretty worried when I first saw them do it, but they are fine, mine do it quite often as it gets pretty hot here.

Hey, I know this is an old topic, but perhaps someone is still around to help. I live in a hot climate (Caribbean), my quails are super hot in the summer and they absolutely love the water. I want to give them a permanent little water feature. Has anyone figured out how to set something like this up, without them scratching all the bedding into the water basin?
My quail live in a big outdoor aviary with a big area on wood shaving substrate and a big area with sand for dust bathing.

I haven't tried this, but I'd be more worried about them pooping in the water and creating a stinky mess. Drowning might be a concern, too. If it was shallow and had pebbles to help prevent drowning and you could remove it for cleaning easily, it might be worth trying.
