Quail Mite Question

I was just wondering whether quail and chicks can die from mites. A friends half grown chick had mites and was huddled up in the corner and wasn't active, she didn't know that it had mites at the time and soon she became worried and took it inside and tried bringing it back to health. Sadly, during the night it had died so I was wondering whether it could have died from mites or something else? Also can fully grown quail die from mites or are they more stronger than chicks?

A heavy mite infestation can draw so much blood from their host so that the host will die. Not uncommon for setting hens to either die or leave the nest because of heavy mite infestations.

We thought it was either mites or the cold as the quail was huddled up in the corner of the pen. She didn't do much but bathe it in sand and try to get it to eat and drink, it did start eating and drinking but as soon as it did she put it back in the pen overnight. But that only made the chick worse, I wasn't there at the time otherwise I would've stopped her
