So I have three quails. Two females and one male. When we first got them we had two types of eggs, one that was pale with dark spots ( like the normal type ) and one with light splotches. Now, we got at least one egg from each one every two days. At least. Sometimes we'd get one a day. Then the one that layed the pale with dark spots ( that was white, different to the other quails ) started attacking the male and the other female, and during that no one layed any eggs. So we put her in her own cage for about a bit more than a week, where she layed a few eggs on her own while the other one still remained not laying. They all relaxed a bit and when I let the white female back in they were a happy family again! But, It has been like a month and the other female hasn't layed at all. I only get pale eggs with dark spots ( which I am now putting in the incubator because I believe the male is of sexual maturity ). But no other types. And I don't think she's having a break, its the middle of spring! And the breeder we got them from said she was only three months ( both the females ) and the male was six weeks, so she can't have stopped, since we only got them two months ago! They're on a chick feed with all the right percentages ( http://www.ridley.com.au/products-2...entials-range-of-feeds/barastoc-chick-starter ) My mum thinks that they both are actually laying but they just both changed to the same type of egg design..? I don't think that's possible for them to change the egg design but I don't know... Is it? I have a bit of a fear I handled them too roughly once and that stuffed up their egg production, is that possible? Again, I don't know. Argh!!

Please help!!

If you are only getting one egg a day I'd say only one girl is laying. Make sure they have fine oyster shell available to make strong egg shells. They can change the pattern on the egg over time and sometimes you'll get one with no colour that went through the 'paint factory' too fast. Your girl that's laying is obviously the dominant female. Make sure she isn't being too bossy towards your other girl, and check the male isn't over mating anyone. Maybe sit and observe them for a little while when you put food in. Your male should be a gentleman and call them over with a rumbling sound.

Hopefully your non-layer will be contributing again soon. She may be a more sensitive soul and all the changes could've affected her more than your bossy hen.

Oh, okay! I just gave them a few oyster shells and the one not laying gobbled them up first! I watched them after that and I don't believe the male made any noises of the sort..? Anyways, thanks so much! I'll be sure not to make any changes to anything and keep an eye on them! c:
