I have recenty acquired 3 hen coturnix and a cock. Theyve been brilliant, they are living in a two story rabbit hutch, and triangular chicken ark out on the grass during nice weather. They use the ladder in the hutch without a problem, once I showed then how to do it.
Tonight ive come home and one of my hens has an open flesh wound. There is no puncture, the muscle is intact, and looks as if something has nipped her ( I was thinking a rat) or shes fallen/caught herself on something ( although there are no sharp objects kept in their hutch).
Either way, I have this poor baby chirping at me. I have flushed out the wound with saline, its nice and clean, pink, and fresh. Ive left it open and put her under a 75w heat lamp just to keep off the chill and help ease stress. She seems ok in herself and is trying to hobble about. Shes sat and made a nest around herself with their shredded paper.
Is there anything else I can do to aid recovery? I havent removed her from her flock as they all get along and after watching her for 10 minutes shes coping well with them and intergrating fine, albeit with a limp.
Thanks very much in advance!
