Were having the same problem with the same issues as you 4 month olds 1.5 square feet getting one egg a day woth the hen. Make sure the hens are 1 rooster to 2 hens. Also use polysporin on the wound and keep the quail away from the others. Give the existing quails a shallow dish with either sand or give them any form of grass with a seed. We are also looking for better awnsers. Once the wounds have heiled i know it sounds weird but take some Vaseline and some cyane pepper and paint the mixture on each bird so the others dont peck only cause they hate the taste
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
