It is a really tiny bowl. I put some holes in the sides of it above the lid-rim line. I didnt' have any quail water bases (nor any place local to get some) and knew I needed something small for the buttons. It worked, kind of, though I'd recommend bigger holes, I kept having to squeeze it to get the water out
