I had lots of wonky pullet eggs from 5-8 week old birds on a 28% protein starter, I hardly ever have a wonky egg since switching to 21% layer feed (birds also start laying at 7 weeks instead of 5), until just recently. I have three 9 week old hens in a separate pen, 2 are celadon and lay normal eggs, the the other is a normal shell but every third day has a double yolker and has also had a soft shell. Is she going to grow out of this or are some just prone to laying weird eggs on a regular basis?

Mine had weird eggs until around 12 weeks, though with markedly decreasing frequency. I admit to missing those double yolkers, but I'm sure they don't ;)

If you're still getting soft shelled eggs, though, I'd double check that your oyster shell is a size the birds are eating--I haven't had to grind mine, but I know some people do. Make sure those girls are getting their calcium!

It was only one in the last year, and a pullet to boot. However the same bird did lay my biggest egg ever (ouch!), maybe even a triple yolker but didn’t pay attention, poor thing, hopefully this isn’t a long term thing!

In my experience, celadons in general are more likely to have egg issues. They seem to need more calcium than the others, so I try to make sure that they have oyster or egg shell on the side available all the time.
