Quail question

What if I feed the males just scratch feed and the females the breeder diet?

You can feed that layer feed to the hens only. But scratch is not enough for the males. Scratch lacks many vitamins and minerals and your roos may not live long on scratch. If you can find some flight conditioner or finisher that is at least 20% protein, then it will have to do. Even chicken chick starter IF it has 20% protein. You can always add hard boiled eggs or meal worms to their diet each day to make up for the lower protein.

Good luck!

How am I supposed to feed them different food if they are in the same pen I can't just catch them and put them in a different pen to eat. I don't see how that would work.

That is why you need a starter feed, flight conditioner or grower feed....something with at least 20% protein or higher, and offer up crushed oyster shell on the side for the layers. Just no layer feed. The girls can eat the starter or grower or conditioner feed and the oyster shell for the calcium and the males are good eating the starter or grower.
