I have not done this yet but am planning to. I have over 30 newly hatched Bob's. Boy can they scoot! Don't you remove the last part of the wing at the joint? Are you cutting through the joint rather then the bone or am I looking at the pictures wrong?

Cut Thru The Bone Very Close To, But Just Past The Joint--- They Do Bleed A Little, But It Doesnt Take Much Blood To Look Like A Frightful Mess!!! I Recommend That You Do It Before Feeding Time Or Yes Any Bird Will Puke On You With Stuff In Its Stomach-- Thats Anytime Handled Not From Pinioning.. As Far As Poop--- If Y'all Have Birds You Cant Tell Thats A First--lol.

Seriously Tho It Works Like A Charm. Just Snip 'em And Put Em In The Brooder--- Dont Handle Them And Dont Keep Lookin In On 'em!!! The More They Get Fooled With And The More Spazzed Out They Become The More They Bleed... Do It And Leave Em Alone For 24 Hrs --- Let Them Clot Off And Start To Heal

I believe I cut them correctly. I did not withhold food before clipping. Your right...not the 1st or the last time I will be pooped on!!! LOL I just grabbed one out of the brooder, clipped the wing then put it back in the brooder...same thing with others. The brooder is a clear tote so I can see through it...just watched from a distance.

That's what I get for working and trying to post here! LOL I work for a call center so am taking incoming calls on a headset and offering troubleshooting for electronic products...also trying to type here. Sometimes my train of thought gets interrupted or I type incorrectly...and no, I am not blonde!

Just trying to do too many things at once. I edited my previous post, had a brain infarction I am afraid.

At least you have an excuse! I do it all the time....my only excuse is dyslexic....

These are my first Bobs, now 4 days. My gosh are they fast!!! How do you catch them without hurting them...maybe my brooder is too big...LOL....I hope my 13 yr old is home in time for this.....

farrier! :

Are you getting eggs or chicks?
You need to let me know if there is a big difference between the Butlers and the Bobs....

I have eggs. The Northern and the Butler eggs look to be comparable in size. I understand the Northern are smaller than the Butlers when mature? I set the Northern eggs last night ( 50 ) and just got the Butler eggs this morning ( 48 ). Geez, if I get a decent hatch rate I will be eyeball deep in quail!!!
