Quail recall tubes

You know those one-way funnels people who are training bird dogs supposedly use to "recall" their practice quail to a cage? I installed one in my Gambel's quail coop. My hope was I could let some of them out every day next summer to free-range and they'd use the tube to get back in to the cage at night. Do you have to teach the quail how to use or find these tubes? They don't seem terribly bright to say the least.

Recall cages dont work like that. In a place that is strange to them, some will return to the recall cage, but you have to leave a bird in the recall cage to actually do the calling. Even then only a percentage return. Never let out quail that you want back.
