that is a great idea. never thought of putting an egg IN the pen to find out. Thanks so much. Gonna do that tonight.

That would be my guess as well.. The change thing. Egg eaters are few and far between. 90% of the egg loss I encountered was due to the freaky weather, out of service lighting, or old hens. I wish I could find an "egg eater" to explain it all, because that would be a very quick fix
