Quail with chickens?

Hello all!

first post so bear with me please...

I have a mixture of hens (buff orpingtons and silkies and silkie x's) and i wonder if they can mix with the quail? we have a fairly sizeable aviary type set up (roof included as we have some issues with birds of prey).

does anyone have any experience with this?

Hello and welcome to BYC.

Quail and chickens should not be kept together and biosecurity should be practiced between handling the two. Chickens can carry many diseases that never show symptoms in a chicken but pass easily to quail. Most of those diseases can be fatal. Coryza and MG are a couple of the most likely. There is a link in my signature that shows an example of why keeping the two together is a bad idea.

Since you are new to BYC you may want to explore the quail sticky thread it will give you a lot of very good information on quail.
