Hello all
I'm new to BYC, finally made myself a member.
Me and my girlfriend have always had an interest in poultry my Nanna has always had chickens and as I child we hatched chicks, which I thought was amazing seeing the eggs from start to finish. From candling them to seeing the move and shake.
So last year me and my girlfriend decided to hatch some courtunix Quail's. In our first hatch we successfully hatched 9 out of 15, we had a few issues initially with one hitting his head on top of the cage which seemed to make him walk funny for the rest of his life, but using the community at BYC we nursed him back to fine health using sugar water and tlc.
Earlier this year unfortunately a predator managed to pick 7 of our little quails off so we decided to hatch some more from our own eggs!! we had around 38 eggs in the incubator, all was well until one egg exploded releasing bacteria which I think caused some slight issues later on, but the sadest part about our hatch this time around was a power cut, which caused abit of a delayed hatch date but eventually through perseverance we had 6 lovely little quail chicks so after 6 weeks we added the remaining chicks to the aivary with the two OQ's (origional Quail's) so we now have 8 little healthy quails producing plenty of eggs and loving life!
