quails eggs

Quote:
I've read that Coturnix/Japanese quail can live about 2-2 1/2 years and the place I've found that sells quails also sells ex-layers that are about 14-15 months old. Not sure how accurate this is, or what the figures are for other breeds of quail. I know Bobs are alot slower growing, so maybe they live longer as well? Not sure

Hope this was of some help.

What sort of quail have you got? I don't own any at the moment, but I was planning on buying a few Japanese hens...like about 3 or 4. I figured that would be a nice small number to start off with and I'll still get a nice amount of eggs for a beginner

My college has two hens, but they don't lay every day for some reason. You would be lucky to get one egg every two or three days with them...maybe its because of their diet? Do quails lay less if they don't have enough protein in their diet?

You will find there are several here with birds around 5 years of age and still laying.... talk to Joe or JJ, Both have hens that may qualify for social security!!
