quails in there new house

i went a bought a eglu and i am so glad that is did, the quails just love it, they have been sunbathing in this lovely sunshine today.


this is my lovely girl she is like a lilac colour i have a male and female of this colour so i think i will be breeding some more.

Aww they look happy

mine lay in nest box and any where in run I have been thinking of putting another door in the run too ! X I woke up with the dawn chours this am to find a cat cat by their eglu and it didn't run away with me knocking on window so I went out at 5.50am like a crazy quail lady to check on them but my mesh has worked well no problems can only watch them not hurt them ! X

the sand box is there favourite place to go, i had to add another as they were queuing up to get in there.

Dani you are right about the cat, i went out last night to feed the foxes and there was a black cat sat next to their pen, like you i have a plastic grid all round mine to stop the wind and rain mainly but hopefully keep the cat away. mine has started to lay in the pen as well now, so hubby has put in another door for me, it really does make life a lot easier.

I'm sat in garden with the squailies who have laid 3 more eggs today and the male and one female have a new game the smaller grass at the back of the run he keeps jumping on top and being king of the castle and 1 girl is doing it too super cute ! X

i have been watching mine charge around in the sunshine, my white one laid for the first time today.
Dani just a question, on the back of the eglu where the door opens, do you have it covered with plastic or have you left it uncovered, i was just wondering when the rain comes it will blow in, i don't want them to get wet.

Rain can't get in the straw is always dry inside even if raining badly I don't have anything on it now I have a extreme weather jacket for the house which I had on in winter but I have had it off since mid march time with no probs ! X I had 4 more eggs today
