Anyone had this experience?
My adult quail just panic if ever I wear the colour peach, but seem calmest when i'm wearing blue.
I thought this was just my adult quail's preference, but I've just walked into see my 16 day old chicks wearing peach, and they have gone crazy.
Anyone else had any reaction to colour?

Absolutely. My chickens and quail panic if I wear the color red as they must see it as an angry tone, injury or aggression. If I wear something striped in the colors of a poisonous snake, they all freak out. My parrots are the same way....there are certain colors that they judge me by and do not understand me if I am wearing them. I think all birds react this way to a color stimulus. Body language is everything, including color.

Thanks TwoCrowsRanch! That explains why my outdoor quail went mad when I wore a striped top one day. Although, they did like my red hat, til I lost it. But above all, they seem calmest when I'm wearing blue....
I was discussing this with family, and I think they thought I'd finally lost it! But hey, seems not so!

I think quail are even color minded amongst themselves. I've had a colony of Coturnix quail and the males always seemed to bond with the same colored females, even though they had access to any hen they wanted lol. I guess it could be the same with colors as well!

Hi Myfinefeathered friend - That's interested in the breeding issues too. I've never bred but will be doing shortly, so will watch to see what happens with mine. I did however have in my original brood 2 birds paler than the rest and they were bullied by the others, so that would back up your view that they are colour minded within the species.

I know its an old descusion i was reading up on colour lights where breeding. Red has an effect on growth and mature faster and blue or green has an opposite effect. Not sure untested, but i use red bulbs on my quail when raising sometimes and in winter for warmth
