Apparently so.

You can have a gold mine when you live next door to a person devoid of all reason and responsibility.

Also, how can once captive birds survive out in the real world anyways. Poor birds. It seem cruel to me. It would of been better to butcher them.
Oh well each to their own I guess . . .

They have to have very little human contact. They are best raised in a "Johnny house" where they can see out when they perch up high, but when they are down at ground level in the house they see nothing but each other. (once they are release and see something at groundlevel they, ah, flush(?not sure if that is the word) up and away from it )Some people even set it up so that their feeders are on the outside so that they don't have to enter the Johnny house except to catch birds for release or dog training purposes.

Those that have human contact daily, are handled, are exposed to family pets, and the daily comings and going of people are nothing better than a food source for the neighborhood cats!

I am 100% responsible for every life I bring into the world. There are no "grey" areas with Me.

I don't just turn out my entire flock, because they smell.

I'm confused as to why anyone with an IQ over 5 is sticking up for this guy. Please explain!

I am FAR from irresponsible! Come on PEOPLE!

I have a license to have these birds and that INCLUDES release. They have over 200 acres to live on AND are being fed daily if they choose to come back to feed stations.

These are WILD birds not raised as PETS. These birds were meant to be turned out and I have done this slowly over the past year trying to restock our area that has lost it's population. There are many articles online concerning this in Texas. Releasing the a WILD NOT PET MIND YOU, bird into the wild where it should be is FAR FROM CRUEL!

I cannot tell you how hot I am right now. You people jump to so many conclusions and talk smack without even knowning the full situation.

I only wanted to warn the person of the smell these critters do create. Figured it might save him/her some headaches in the future.

Get over yourselves.

How can you call me cruel when you didn't bother to find out how my operation works? Maybe you should think before you type such cruel words yourself.

Thank you. Someone reasonable.

Donofpa, I in NO WAY meant for this to blow up like it did. I apologize to you. I hope that the information I gave about smell is something you take into consideration. Since I do this to release into the wild and build up our wild population in the area, I do not care to winterize my birds until next year. I am enjoying the break from the smell and constant clean up of them. Consider that in your decision to obtain quail.

I agree with this issues of quails even I do not raise them but know of friends that do! They would raise them until they are of certain age for release and believe it or not, those quails are very hardy birds and can forage for themselves quite well. Come hunting season, they would be flushed out for the dog trials or shoot for meat.

Even the hatcheries got their recommendations that you must be licensed for the chicks and release them to the wild. They will not sell you any of quail chicks (depending on the breeds) without the license. Same for turkeys.
