I have a poor little guinea pig that had a little rabbit friend who keeps running away. Now he's on his own.
1. If I get another guinea will he hurt it if its younger?
2. Can I keep Quails in the same hut as guineas?

Generally guinea pigs crave companionship so much that they get along fine, especially if they have enough room. Putting two adults together of the same sex can be a disaster though! And, you have to be careful as many times they are wrongly sexed by pet stores, vets and breeders, they can be challenging to sex! And, females cannot be bred past a certain age if it is their first time as it can kill them after the pelvis has "settled."

Actually rabbits and guinea pigs are generally a dangerous combo and I can only imagine a bird would not be good either!

If you are introducing a new guinea pig, take initial pig out of cage, thoroughly clean the cage, then give both pigs baths and dry them before putting them together. It's usually a territorial thing and cleaning the cage of any previous pig smells and giving them baths helps the transition immensely. It can definitely work and your pig will be much happier with a buddy. As for combining a pig with birds... I don't think I'd try that, doesnt sound like a good combo, I wouldnt want beaks around my pig or teeth around my quail.

Good luck!

When I had only 1 guinea pig left and didn't want to get more I penned it next to the chicks but not in with them. I would not mix the 2 but it can help the guinea pig to have another animal nearby and safely seperated by mesh or bars. However it's really not a substitute for another guinea pig. You can mix nearly all guinea pigs with a same sex pig provided they have enough room. The minimum for 2 guinea pigs though should be about 6sq ft or more. Preferably closer to 10 for males. Most junky petstore cages aren't even 4sq ft which is why people have problems. You'd get annoyed with your room mate too if you were crammed into a tiny room with them 24/7. If you can't provide that much space and you have a male it's better to just keep one guinea pig and try to provide as much enrichment as possible. You could pen the quail near it and try to let it out to exercise in a safe room daily. I did guinea pig rescue for awhile and at one point had 4 males in one pen and a neutered male and 7 females in another pen and never had fights. The exception was the neutered male who had some major behavioral problems that cause fights with the other males and that's why he got neutered and put with the girls.

There's an excellent page by a rescue on how to introduce guinea pigs located here:
