I just ordered 90 valley quail eggs to hatch. Look for Quailcoeggs.com in the fall of 2016. In the spring of 2017 I will be starting my backyard business in selling gambel and valley hatching quail eggs. Each order will be shipped 2 day priority and each egg will be placed in individual slots in a 3 inch thick foam. I will also add aniditional 10 to 15% of extra eggs to cover possible breakage. I have an egg from my adult GG bobwhites. It has been in the incubator for 30 days. I put it in on April 4 straight from the nest. I had candled it and it was developing well. should I candle it again since it is past the hatch date? or since it went in the incubator straight from the nest will it a more time?

This is a picture of a quail I bought for five dollars.
I know nothing about quails.
Not even sure what breed it is.
It's feathers are all messy because I was holding it.

Shark that's a coturnix quail, (3 weeks old?). The colouring is called tuxedo, but usually tuxedo is black on top and white on bottom, yours is wild on top/white on bottom.

You should feed it at least 20% feed. I can't tell if it's male or female.Try to keep it on non-slip flooring, anything that will allow it to walk naturally.

When Finnisher says 20% feed, he? means 20 % protein. I'd go higher than that though, at least for a quail that is still growing - aim for something around 25% protein. 24-30 % should be okay. Look for gamebird and turkey starters, that's usually the only feed with that much protein. Quail also do best with other quail, so I'd get your little one some friends, but they can be very territorial so you can't just throw it in with quail it doesn't know, they need to get used to each other, living beside each other for a while. You probably won't be able to sex this one before it's 6-8 weeks old, and then you'll need to vent sex (search the forum to see how) it because of its color. They should be kept together all females or 1 male and 4-8 females.
