My neighbor has a pile of Pekin ducks. She called me this evening and asks if I would be interested in taking a few off her hands. Apparently she had a couple go broody on her and she has a few too many now. I know NOTHING about ducks. I have chickens, but never have had any ducks and I am not sure if I should. The kids are all for it and of course DH is,..but I don't have a clue how to take care of them. Also we put in a huge pond, which would be a lovely setting for some ducks,...but I just had it stocked with fish. Will they eat my fish???? Neighbor says no they won't, but seems to me they would. The breed of the ducks is Pekin,..are they "friendly" ducks?? Are ducks mean?? See,..I don't know squat. I have till tomorrow to make up my mind,..any info/help would be great! Thanks!

Anyone??? Come on, I know there is duck people in the crowd.

I think I'm becoming a duck addict, so I would say "TAKE THEM!"

about the fish, i think it depends on what they are and how big they are. someone else should be able to tell you more.

Once you go duck, you never go back. I love ducks. Are these ducks socalized? Do they like people? It isn't a requirement, but it is more fun if they will come to you for treats.

I have a large stock pond and can't say I've notice them eating fish. Mine prefer foraging on land. They can eat ordinary layer pellets. Females lay you nice eggs. And they are so funny to watch.

TAKE THEM!

I have a pair of Pekin, Khaki Campbells, Rouens, and Grey Call. I love watching them. We took them down to one of our ponds yesterday and they played all day. I was scared something would get them at night so we brought them back up to their pen. I don't think they would eat all of your fish if they ate any at all it would be the tiny ones. I feed mine gamebird feed, which is more expensive than chicken feed. They are not supposed to have medicated feed so gamebird is best because it isn't medicated and a lot higher in protein for them. Good luck with your decision.

. Her ducks are very socialized, she lives about an 1/8 mile from me, but my kids catch the school bus at her house and her ducks are always hanging out at the bustop with the kids.
