Quaked UP & Thinking about getting some ducks,...???

How big are your fish and your pond? I put 2 dozen gold fish (about 2 inches in size) in my 275 gallon garden pond just to see what the ducks would do. It took all of about 20 minutes for 5 ducks to eat 2 dozen gold fish. I imagine if I had a larger pond and didn't have bright orange targets, the fish may have survived.

Our pond is a stock pond about a 25'x 50' or so. We stocked it with catfish, bass, and blue gill a few weeks back. They were just small stocking fish. The fish are not visible, the fish stay hid pretty good. The pond is about 5 ft deep give or take. The ducks would have to dive for them and probably have a fish finder (radar).

I have nineteen Pekins, fourteen of them girls and I just love them...they are funny, silly, busy, nosy, they follow me around and chatter at me and supervise everything I do outside and appear to have an opinion about what I do...I got my first duck eggs a few days ago...delicious...I would say, take some ducks...you wont regret if for a moment...

Ducks are smelly and messy and hardly worth the bother;

Oh, who am I kidding? They're incredibly addictive!
I got a couple last summer, just for variety in the yard. Very nice, most amusing to watch. Then they started to grow on me. When 1 was killed I got 2 more. Then I got another female. Then 3 more females. Then I sold my matched white pair to a farm. Then I collected some eggs and put them in an incubator, which resulted in 3 more. Now I'll have to find homes for 2 of them, drakes, but it shouldn't be too hard since they're from a respected line of show winners.
Get ducks.
Then get more ducks.

You all are so awesome! I thank each and everyone for their help in making my decision. As of today I am a proud owner of FOUR beautiful 3 week old Pekin ducks! Plus they were FREE!

They are so cute,..I want to cuddle them all the time. I will post pictures if my batteries to my camera ever charge up. I can see this could be addictive, my poor DH, what did he ever do by saying," Yes honey,ducks will be fine. Whatever you want."

Yay! Congrats on your new babies! You'll love it. It's a slippery slope, but soooooo much fun.

BTW: Your fish will be fine in a stock pond. Here's my pond (lookin' mighty ugly and green after all the recent storms).

It's stocked with catfish, bass and lots of fatback minnows. The ducks pretty much ignore them, although they go crazy after all the itty bitty spring frogs. It's hilarious watching them try to catch them.

I can imagine goldfish in a small pond would be a different story! Oh noes!

And we need pics as soon as the camera charges!
