Quarantine against Airborne Diseases

So I just saw purplechickens had to cull his whole flock, and I got worried, I love my girls.

I remember reading somewhere that some diseases can be spread through the air. So how far away should I keep my quarantined hens from the other girls?

EDIT: I'll be keeping them all in my backyard btw. The original girls live in a tractor that I would rather not coop them up in for a month, but I will to keep them healthy

Not sure if there really is a minimum so to say, so just get them as far as possible and care for your chickens before the new to prevent movement of particles from the new to the old.
