I am getting a single silkie pullet from the same breeder my other girls are from. Same age/size, none have been exposed to any other chickens, and her birds are never on the ground before going to new homes.
Do I still need to do normal quarantine procedures with this girl?

None have ever been exposed to ANY chickens or just not chickens belonging to her?

I got my 4 silkie girls (the only chickens I have) from her last year. The girl I’m getting is from her as well, same age/size. My girls have not been exposed to any chickens other than hers before I brought them home. Same with the new girl. They are from the same place, and none of her chickens are on the ground-all inside or raised owns-before they go to new homes.

I'd quarantine. I was thinking maybe you got your silkies from her recently and wanted another, but in a year who knows, you don't have to keep her seperate for 30 days if you don't want to, but even a week can give a germ or illness time to show it's gross germy head! Good luck

That’s kind of what I was thinking. Also, since she’s never been on the ground, is it ok to preemptively treat her with Corid to prevent Coccidia? My other girls were all treated last year.

You should consider quarantine but I'll admit, I'd probably take my chances and begin the integration process immediately instead, as long as I believed that the breeder was forthright with information about the management and health of their flock.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ll do the whole 30 days, and I’ve seen all of her pens and none of her birds are on the ground. All of my girls from her are healthy and beautiful, so I’m sure this new little girl will be as well. 😊

It is very difficult to do a proper quarantine, and if you do not do a proper one, well you may as well not. However, things can go wrong, that is a fact.

what you might do, is put one of yours with her for a week. Any problems either way, from hers to yours, or yours to her, would show up. AND when you go to add them back to the flock, you will be adding a pair, a much better situation, rather than trying to add one!

given your description, I would be very surprised if there was a problem, but I would strongly expect problems adding a single bird. The pair may have a dust up or two, but that is one on one, not 4 to 1.
