Quasi-Watercolor 9-Patch Quilt ~ Quilting Completed~ Binding Now

Grabbed about 12 new fabrics today and added them to the only ones I had that were suitable for this project. Second pic are ones I had here already. Will need some input on this project after I get the 63 blocks finished. Usually, they are made from 2" squares, but I will be making 9 patch blocks with 3" squares, then arranging them in dark, med and light values in a colorwash effect.

Wow, what a neat project to embark on! I had never heard of a colorwash quilt before, simply beautiful!

I have tons of fabrics for water color quilts. made a few of them myself. If you need some more, I can probably scrounge up a flat rate box worth for you.

I love the watercolor quilts. I have eyed them covetously for years. If only I had time... sigh...

Argh! I've made two blocks and I'm already frustrated! I may have to change up my approach. Good grief, maybe I'm just tired. It's so late and I'm still upset over putting down a hen today so guess I'll start up tomorrow.

goldenluver, that is so sweet, but I'm not sure now what direction I'm going. Have to think on this some. So far, not having a bit of fun with this one.

ETA: I'm changing up my tactic a bit. It will still be watercolor-like, but I will add in some regular prints, no white, no black, no solids, just 63 low contrast blocks in all these fabrics, then arrange them in a pleasing way. That way I can strip piece some of them, rather than just cutting hundreds of squares, and it will be much less stressful.

Ok, going pretty well so far. Need to buy more fabrics, though. There will be nine 9" blocks down and seven across, plus borders. This is just the ones I've done already, but they are not in their final arrangement--this is just a sample of the general look of it, plus one of the prettiest blocks in closeup. My design wall isn't large enough. Not sure what I'll do about that other than lay them out on the floor in the great room.

Cyn that's one thing I wish I had learned from my grandmother, quilting. That lady can make a quilt out of ANYTHING. There's nothing like turning the attic fan on in the Fall or Spring and snuggling up under a heavy quilt.

I agree. I love quilts, making them and snuggling under them. Wish there was time to make all the ones I want to get around to.
