Queen Silvia Thread

Hi there-

I have been so busy I have not had time to keep up with my BYC! My Queens are growing out well. They are really good fliers. They are also very plucky. I sent a roo and four females I got from GFF to my niece in Md. She will be raising them as a project. I still have about 12 for my flock.

As far as sexing...the roosters did get their comb development quickly. It turned pink where the females was tan tinted. Mine are in a growout pen but keep flying the 6' fence!

Mine fly over anything. I have given up on containing my larger ones. They roost in the top of the apple tree. The younger ones are better behaved. This is one of the younger females free ranging yesterday.

How big are your Queen Silvia pullets and roosters?

I have 9 Queen Silvia chicks that are 6 weeks old. They are very small compared to some other breeds i am also growing out (52 chicks in total). I was wondering how big they will get???

I would guess compared to some i have had in the past like hambergs, lavenvelder or exchequer leghorns the the Queen Silvias might be in the range of 3 or 4 pounds at most??? I currently do not have any small breed chicks to compare them with.

CAPTURED and behaving, but only because they are captured. This rooster is getting pretty stunning and he is the one that has the best temperament.

My Queen Silvia's have calmed down as they have gotten older. Some of the hens are friendly and will take treats from my hand. Here are my first 3 chicks to hatch from my group. they are 1 day old. They are turning into very good layers. There are also Silverudd's Blue and SFH's in these pictures.
