Question about a cracked egg

I have an Australorp setting on 12 eggs. Yesterday when she was off the nest I candled her eggs. She had cracked one. Looks like she stepped on it. It had an indent and small crack running off. The embryo was still moving in side so I melted candle wax on the crack and put it back in the nest. Tonight I candled and its still moving. They are not due to hatch til Sept 12th. There was no leakage from the egg. What are the chances it will hatch? I had to try.

I have read on BYC that others have had good results with the candle wax. I have high hopes for you!

Hi

I have a different technique for sealing a crack but I have had youngsters hatch. Sucess rate about 50% and failures usually due to later infection.

Well I hope if it does make it that it doesnt die later. That would make me sad that I tried. I'm hoping that I caught it early enough that no bacteria made its way in.
