I am about to start construction on my new chicken coop. And I was wondering if anyone likes the a-frame design with the roost in the top of the coop and run in the bottom. Do you like that design? And do the hens like the laying boxes being on each end or should I consider a different laying box option if I go with this design? Thanks for the help!

I do not like that design.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page link. There is two small construction drawings for the Purina coop. This is a very nice design. Click on the images for it to open full size. No need for the sky lights. And no need for three nesting boxes. Make that smaller for two nests. Cut about a 10"X10" access hole in wall for each nest. I'd move the door over and have the nest box same level of door. The height of door and nests is determined by how much litter you plan to use. Four inches is good but look into deep liter method for less cleaning, if you like that after researching it here on BYC then adjust your door and nest height accordingly.

We used a similar design back when we had a smaller place. It was nice, and it wasn't at all difficult to build. Good luck with your coop!
