Hi all!

I have a question concerning some bobwhite eggs. My bobwhite quail and coturnix are in the same outside aviary. My coturnix quail started brooding on the a mixed nest of coturnix and bobwhite eggs but i always removed the coturnix quails eggs and left the bobwhites. The bobwhite female kept laying eggs under the brooding coturnix. Now she stopped brooding and i dont know how old what egg is. I tried candling but the pictures only go till day 12. I divided the eggs in 4 main groups 1: no development (removed those) 2: early development (pic 1 and 2) 3: starting movement? ( pic 3) 4: bigger her stuff is moving on the inside. (Pic 4 and 5)

Can anyone help me with an estimantion of in what stage/incubation day these eggs are?

He'll again! :frow

I am going to guess here...starting with the first egg, each of these eggs are 1 to a couple days apart. The first egg appears to be about 9 days, second about 10 days. Third egg about 11 days. Fourth egg about 15 and the last egg, 19. I am just guessing. Obviously the staggered laying has them days apart.

@007Sean!!!!

Keep us posted!! :)

Thanks for the quick reactions! I will follow them up in the incubator, and when the egg appears quite full place it in a “no turning” zone of the incubator. I keep you posted if one of them hatches!

Today the first one hatched! And i see 1 other tiny crack in another egg 👍🏼
I guess I wasn't too far off on what day of incubation they were on....maybe 2 days off.
ETA - are you sure they are Bobwhite eggs? In the pic, they look speckled or they are very dirty! And the chick doesn't look like a bobwhite, or if it is it's a Mexican Speckled or Snowflake?

The eggs are indeed a bit dirty, all my quail are in outside ground coops. Indeed mexican speckled 😊

That guess at breed was like a Kareem hook shot @007Sean. Super smooth.
Not a breed...but a color variety! Bobwhite is the species, Mexican Speckled, Snowflake, Tennessee Red, Black Throated, Fawn, are all color variants of the Northern Bobwhite. If you have raised enough of them you can ID them pretty easily ;) ...but Thanks for the kudos!
