Question about Ameraucanas

I agree with Crunchie..I don't see a debate about that question at all. They are two different things..like apples and oranges. You choose the breed you want based on what you like.

I would say if you're looking for a specific breed color, like wheaton, to go to an ameraucana breeder to ensure you get what you're after. I am sure hatcheries cannot guarantee a color since they sell EEs.

I was trying to be funny, you guys need to lighten up!

Haha, I thought you were really scared of a flame-war or something....I was thinking to myself, the folks here on BYC are usually pretty civil?

Last yr I ordered 5 EE from Cackle Hatchery. I ended up w/ one of my pullets being wheaten color, but they don't guarantee any particular color. Her name is Sunshine and she is full of personality.

If you want Wheaton I would just go threw a breeder. You might pay more, but you get the colour you want.

This is of interest as they also have dom bantams that I want. What color were your EE roosters?

Sorry seedcorn, but I only have EE pullets. They are very sweet and have some Ameraucana traits w/ muffs, beards, & rumps, but 4 of them lay green eggs & one lays a pinkish tan. The only roo I have is a SLW.
My daughter & I are now on a mission to add true breed Ameraucanas. She wants a small flock of mixed Ameraucana bantams & I want the standard blue one's.

Seminolewind, are you looking for the true breed Ameraucanas or would you be happy w/ the EE. I love my EE mutts that came from Cackle Hatchery.

EE's from hatcheries come in many colors and there is no way of knowing what the roosters will grow up to look like, color wise. I have seen EE roosters that are silver and whites, reds and browns, I have seen some that look to have a Campine color pattern, so there is just really no way of knowing. If you are after a specific color use the breeders list on the Ameraucana breeders club page.

Smitty, I guess it doesn't matter, I have one Ameraucana pullet, and I think she needs a friend. I have other chickens, it just seems that she doesn't have one of her own, LOL
