Question about an impacted crop.

Chicken is about 10 months old. She has an impacted crop that was doughy and is now hard. I have been massaging her and giving her water. She is also very lethargic.
I am expecting that this is due to worms because her sisters are not laying as well. I was going to treat them with valblazen but will that work with her crop so full? Is there something else I should try first? I originally though it was grass, but have not had her out in the yard for over a week and her crop is getting harder.
 
Any thoughts? she didn't move much all day. She has a hard lump in her crop the size of an egg. She did poo. I am attaching a picture.

thanks I will try that. Can anyone help me about giving medication to a chicken with an impacted crop. Is it advised or should I clear up the crop issue first?
 
It seems like it wouldn't do much good to administer meds with an impacted crop as the crop is the first step in chicken digestion.

There are a few YouTubes of folks clearing their chicken's crop. You might look into that...
 
Not going well, I have massaged her crop twice a day for the past week. She has a hard lump the size a large egg and i was not making much progress. 2 days ago I started giving her miconazole. I was encouraged because the mass is much softer and is breaking up. However, she is dramatically loosing weight and strength. She can barely stand up. I am confused by this because she is eating well and pooping. What should i do next? I am thinking may pediasure until she gets her strength up? Any other suggestions?
 
If she is eating well, I wonder how the food is getting past the lump?
I am really sorry but if she's that weak there may not be anything you can do. I just don't know what to tell you.
If you can tube her I would do Ensure to give her water and calories. I get my tubes by way of using male urine catheters. I haven't gotten any in years but I imagine the drug store can help. Or I would use one of those motherless baby feeders like a syringe with this long nipple. If you can get the long nipple to the back of her throat and deposit about 5ml. at a time to start.. If you can get the nipple all the way to the back of her throat you would pass behind her trachea. I'll bet a pet store has one of those long nipple feeders used for orphan babies.
 
If she's pooping, then something is getting by. You can worm with Valbazen since stuff is passing, but it may take a bit longer if things are slow. Since the 'mass' in the crop is not going away it may be something that she simply cannot pass. It could be long grass or even a foreign body that she should not have eaten. Sometimes an xray can help, no guarantees. If it simply will not pass then crop surgery may be your only choice, to remove whatever it is. Since food is getting by, I don't think she's blocked lower down, those usually look like only liquid droppings, no solids. I recently had a bird with a slow, doughy crop, contents barely moving. Her droppings were even more watery than your birds. I gave coconut oil and lots of fluids and massaged each time. I did this every couple of hours initially, until I felt like I was making progress and the crop was going down some. I wormed with Valbazen also. It was 6 days before her crop really started to empty. The fluids are the most important, getting dehydrated will only make things worse, and the coconut oil can help move things along. Crop issues can be really frustrating since we can't really see what's going on inside.
