Question about angelwing (pretty sure my girls are developing this)

And yet, many veterinarians still suggest lowering protein intake for ducklings with Angel wing because high-protein diets can accelerate growth rates, which is believed to contribute to the development of this condition.

Thank you so much this is very helpful!!
Also the emergency vet is super booked even 2 days out or more, I will try again tomorrow or the next day. I ordered the wrap that will hopefully work it will come with 2 day shipping.

The have been laying around a good amount lately, they are getting more comfortable and probably also bored.

If it weren’t way too cold and windy and rainy out here I would be letting them outside a lot there has only been two acceptable days so far and they loved those.

They were getting a good amount of swim time in the bath for a few days I was doing it every day. I think I’ll start doing that more after wrapping. I tried some toys when they were a couple weeks old, and they were way too scared. Any good recommendations for enrichment and movement?
I was also going to recommend socks. It is better than nothing while you wait for tape. It really takes two people to do the tape right. One to hold the duckling and one to tape.
As for enrichment, I would have them in the bathtub a couple times a day. You can float a little leave lettuce chopped small for them to swim after. Otherwise, bring them to the biggest area you can so they can run around. If possible, make their brooder bigger. Most dangling toys in the brooder make them lay down and play, not what you want.
The sooner you get on this the quicker the healing.

Thete is no evidence that angel wing is caused by too much protein, although that is a too common duck-keepers "old wives tail". The only evidence about causation is epidemiological. Angel wing is most common in ducks living in parks and on public waterways where they are fed bread amd ither carbohydrates rich nutritionally poor food. There is likely an underlying genetic susceptibility accounting for some domestic ducks on good diets developing angel wing. But that is circumstantial.
Certainly back yard duck keepers should not be made to blame themselves when their ducklings get angel wing
Thank you so much!
I learned something new today because of you!!

You can use a sock with the foot part cut off. Just try some different size socks till you get the right size for each duck. Much easier than wrapping and it works great. Here’s my duck poppy in her sock when she had angel wing .

It’s much more noticeable on everybody this morning thank you all so much for your help!

I have applied the socks. Duck hates it the most but she’ll manage.

Oh my goodness that is the cutest sweetest funniest little picture ever! They don’t like it at first, but they will get used to it. Sometimes it will slip down and you have to fix it over again but it’s worth it because it really works.!
